He should be taught that b4 being allowed to use any gun with that ammo
So should average Joes. True, even a very well trained average Joe firearm guy might not know the difference in some of those rounds if he hadn't seen/fired them before, AND if well trained, he would WANT training on what was going into the gun before he handled it - so he would notice it when checked.
Plus according to reports this happened during rehearsal - there shouldn't have been anything in the gun - blank or not - he was told the gun was "cold" meaning no ammo of any type (live rounds shouldn't have even been a possibility on set) Unacceptable delegation.
A proper check WOULD have solved this particular "accident". He didn't do it.
