All I said is that some fans will never be happy. They can never be
satisfied. You can blame that on the head coach having aspirations of winning a national title. I'm just stating a fact. The idea that the fans were pleased with 10 to 11 win seasons and conference titles is a fantasy. It's human nature to not be grateful.
Whatever goal we attain, we immediately find a new goal. However we define success, once we attain it, we immediately redefine (and raise the bar) on what we mean by success. Of course, that's really easy to do when one doesn't actually have to invest time or energy into the program. While sitting on one's fat arse on the couch and complaining that the program is a disappointment -- easy to do when you're not the one trying to win a title.
Even if Beamer didn't have the empty trophy case, there will be fans who are never pleased. It just is what it is. I think there is a kind of satisfaction for some fans that comes with criticizing highly successful people. Frank Beamer, for example, is probably one of the best college football coaches of all time. He's a HoFer. I would venture to guess that very few posters on TSL have achieved a similar level of success in their occupations. But I guess it feels good to point out all the perceived flaws of someone who is WAY better at what they do than the fan is at what he or she does.
