But how does that all tie in with football?
There are some great universities (Northwestern) that have poor football programs.
And some lesser institutions that have long had great football programs.
I know there is SOME synergy in terms of brand recognition, exposure from the football program bringing in more applicants, etc.
But honestly I don't think how we are trying to position ourselves as an academic institution really has much to do with football success. It's much more important how much the athletic department is willing and able to spend on football and how that money is spent, that will determine our success.
