I do this all the time. Ticket is not transferable to a different train.


You would need to call Amtrak or speak to an agent at the station and have them change the ticket and book you on the train you want. Ticket prices generally vary from train to train, so you may get some money back or you may owe some (in some cases, the price is the same).

You may be able to easily do this via the Amtrak website, I’ve just never done it.
