Given that the schools (aka NCAA members) define the NCAA's authority,


did the NCAA really have another choice besides "abdicating?" Don't get me wrong, I do wish the NCAA had handled things differently because college athletics might not be in the mess it is in now. However, schools have basically made their bed and now they have to lay in it. Plus, if schools/conferences did decide to breakaway to form their own association, then I am not sure the new association would be that much different than the current NCAA. Heck if you compare the NCAA with the NAIA, then you would see there really isn't that much differenc between them.
