We are very fortunate. Our direction in the late 1980's was not good


I've often thought that ECU may have actually had opportunities to nudge ahead of us in terms of stature during that very specific point in time. Couple of examples... Bill Roth got the job as "Voice of the Hokies" at a relatively young age because his predecessor left us for East Carolina. And our football series against them at that time was very much a back and forth affair.

As much as we like to complain about the Big East (and a lot of that is justifiable), membership in that football arrangement was a real lifeboat for our overall athletic department IMO.
