It still aggravates me to no end that the cost of mitigation efforts is never discussed by decision makers. The discussion is 100% about what is or isn't effective and what is or isn't an intrusion of privacy and personal choice. It isn't about what all this is costing vs. what benefit we receive.

So we discuss what measures must be taken to keep the schools safe for the children, teachers, and staff. But we don't talk about the cost of forking over the intellectual and emotional growth of an entire generation to do so.
