When we started with ND, if they had instead joined the B1G, we would have been toast.

That is why I've been saying for years that we should have given the same treatment to Texas. If they had taken us up on it, then Texas would not be going to the SEC now, they would be playing basketball, etc. in the ACC and five football games with us.

It also positions us better for the unknown. For example, our relationship with ND makes them a natural part of an Alliance playoff tournament, with the Rose and Orange bowl champions playing each other in a new Alliance championship game. That is made much more attractive by having ND available as a possible at large team in the Orange bowl playing against an ACC team. The at large slot could be the best team from ND/Big12/G5, giving the Orange bowl a great semi-final match up.

I think it was a good move for our survival at the time, but it may be fantastic for us in a few years, too, when VT plays ND in the Orange bowl for a chance to play Ohio State or USC in the Alliance national championship. :^)
