Yankees floated that they were going to sign him for like 60mil. No one believed that, they had Paul ONeil in right on a great contract and he was a staple. So Angelos stole him from the Yankees for 80mil.

My other favorite was stealing Jimmy Key from the Yankees, who had to settle for taking David Wells from the Os as a free agent. Key was done after 1/2 season and Wells was a key part of the Yankees run.

Angelos wanted desperately to be Steinbrenner, like Danny Boy wants to be Jerry Jones.
