ignore the facts and the trends. Speaking for myself, I want to see the team succeed and Fuente defy the odds and come out of this on the other side. He seems like a decent person and I think he genuinely cares about the young men, which is critical.

But if this school is supposed to be a football school, we aren't meeting those expectations. Fuente has a bad record against P5 teams over the past few years, has losing records, and his recruiting fell off the map. I think there is a very large contingent of the fan base that believes he is in way over his head and his hires were pretty bad for a bit there.

There are arguments about how much support he has received, which is a consideration. But for whatever reason, he simply hasn't been successful and, in fact, has been a poor coach lately. He has not justified his top 25 pay, and VT is mired in a bad cycle here.

Hopefully he can find something positive to break out of it and hopefully he can find wins somewhere on the schedule. If he starts losing again, which seems likely to me at least, then he is in even more trouble. I think all fans want him and the team to succeed, but many just don't see that happening, given the results on and off the field.


I should add that a lot of the frustration also comes from the misleading outcome of whatever happened with Baylor and Fuente being retained last year. His flirt with Baylor was really bad, IMO, and Babcock's handling of fuente last december was also really bad. Many fans, I assume, just want closure on this. Either Fuente does really well and he has a job and he is the guy for a while, or he does poorly and let's fire him and move on. My assumption right now is that this season will not go well and he will ultimately be fired, which is frustrating because VT simply delayed the inevitable by keeping him unnecessarily.
