UNC is not that much better than VT. Howell is THE reason I think they are.
Their two RBs in #25 and #8 were monsters. They were the other reasons I thought they were better. Plus, and probably most importantly, they've managed their roster better than VT.
Going into this season, a lot has changed. I don't even count VT's game last season with a majority of the defense gone. UNC destroyed VT's defense at their place, and rightfully so. The VT offense easily had their way vs. UNC's defense (minus the QB shuffling by Fuente, which was weird).
VT has a chance to change the narrative against a ranked UNC team, which I think is overrated. Top 25 team that I expect to go 8-4 (as you mentioned). This has a feel of 2006 #10 ranked Clemson at VT on a Thursday. A ranked team getting all of the media attention without actually winning anything and going into Lane Stadium overconfident, thinking VT is a shell of themselves.
I see VT going all out, as they usually do in openers and beating UNC.
