I don't think there will be a set number.16, 20, or even more.

If you think about it, the SEC can just stay at 16. Whoever their champion will be worthy of playing in a national final in any given year. The marvel of their move is that they took on two of the plums of college football without taking straphangers. It is a new level of audacity.

OTOH, I could see an ACC-Pac12 merger that would do beyond 20.
