IMHO just another example of how technology overcomplicates simple things.

It's not so much that the new process will be "confusing", more so that the mad rush to force everyone to interact with the rest of the world exclusively through a smartphone introduces lots of new potential failure points into what used to be straightforward analog transactions.

The great misconception of modern life is that "change" and "progress" are synonymous, and that is far from the case.
