what Sankey said, in my opinion, is how those "four best teams" would be determined and whether a reduced playoff number actually works more in the SEC's favor. The SEC with UT and the projected revenue of their TV contract already have a head start.
With the increased likelihood of getting 2 of the 4 slots more often than any other conference they widen the gap. The same scenario holds with an expanded playoff but, there is probably at least a chance other conferences get more money. The other consideration in expanding the playoff is that while the likelihood the pool of teams capable of winning 3 or 4 straight shrinks, the "any given Saturday" mantra would be alive for the first round, even if somewhat muted by higher seed home field advantage. Lots of things to consider.
