This deal was pretty much done before it broke.

What I'm seeing reported through chatter, and I am waiting for more linkable reports is that the Big XII hired a consultant in 2020 to put together its Market Value to use to begin renegotiations early for its media rights. Well the value came back less than they desired. They basically found out what we all knew. The Big XII has been paid for 12 members when it has 10. That's what prevented it adding members when David Boren wanted to in 2016. The Big XII is already overpaid.

This caused Texas and Oklahoma to start talking to the SEC over 6 months ago. Then the Big XII went to Fox and ESPN to start renegotiation of media rights contracts early. Both Fox and ESPN declined. Fox basically declined completely like they won't be renewing at all. So no one in the Big XII should put on a charade of being shocked, not even Baylor. And I don't think we're seeing it.

So that's where they are. The ACC is too late here. What I was hoping for was that the SEC would take Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, and Texas could come to the ACC. But Texas wants the SEC apparently. I'm not surprised. SEC is closer and all the rivals are there. It is more difficult for football though. Oklahoma State will be screwed.
