No matter how you slice it, vehicles are more reliable now than ever


A Ford today may still not be as reliable as a Toyota, but today's Ford is still more reliable than a Toyota from 20 years ago (which was pretty darned reliable). The whole industry has gradually improved over my lifetime.

I think there are industries that engineer-in obsolescence, make things unrepairable, or only intend for their products to last half as long as their customer's really want. But that doesn't describe vehicles.
