Depends...for a pipe thread fitting, absolutely. But if the connection is


sealed with a gasket or O-ring and a straight-thread fitting, teflon tape can potentially interfere with the connection if you aren't careful. The O-ring/gasket is where the seal comes from, not the threads. The only thing teflon tape does in those fittings is maybe make it easier to properly tighten the joint, and keep it from sticking if you ever have to take it apart.
