The way they re-wrote the rule is really bad.


Take the obstruction call just made in the Washington-Michigan game. It’s true the UM catcher was in the base path without the ball, but she had to be in the position she was in to catch the ball. Is the catcher supposed to let the throw go or risk not catching the ball just to allow an unobstructed path for the runner? The rule says yes.
