Absolutely not


...at least from my perspective based on the following:

People I talk to in and out of state associate VT with football and the ACC.

Students don't get jazzed to come to VT for the basketball experience, at least as I am aware. It's still all about FB.

In terms of basketball reputation, unless you're ranked #1 for a good portion of the season, regular season success pales in relation to NCAA tournament performance. I would argue that schools need to reach the sweet 16 and possibly elite 8 with some regularity, or break through to the final 4 once to really become recognized as a "BB school". Until VT starts making real noise in the NCAAs, it won't be recognized as a legit BB school imo.
