the issue: RG Securities Solutions LLC

As some of you know we lost my BiL last month after a very short illness (lung cancer).

As things have calmed somewhat down now my wife's niece gave my wife her Dad's laptop hp 15db0011dx (2 years old). The niece said it was real slow and nothing would open up.

So I took a gander and holy shi(r)t what a mess. Windows 10 Home, 4 gig of memory, 1TB slow assed 5400 WD hard drive and grimy as hell. It was full of viruses, and just about any other crap you could think of. Also full of porn...full downloaded movies.

Now this is where RG Securities comes in...evidently last April

He got into a website that hijacked his system. Instead of calling me to handle his situation he contacted these goobers, in India, and they charged him $600 to "clean" his laptop.

The invoice went like this:
1 Clean up junk files and folders
2 System Cleanup
3 System (Software) Cleanup
4. Network Cleanup

Duration: 40 minutes

One time fix: $399.99 + 1yr $199.99 = $599.99

So he paid $400 to fix the crap they hijacked and $200 for a 1 year "service" plan...to let him download and visit "their" website unimpeded....then another $200 the next year.

I couldn't do anything but log into the laptop. No windows updates for over a year, windows virus protect disabled, windows firewall disabled...every security system disabled except for this funky program called RG Security software...WTH is that I thought?

Then I started getting these messages from RG saying that the $200 annual fee is due to unlock his laptop and this crap was embedded deep in the registry. So I said phuque it and used my trusty handy win 10 boot disk and did a Win10 Pro clean install. I did a check to see that everything is OK and it is.

Then I bought an 8 gig DDR4 memory stick (only 1 slot and that maxed it out) and a Crucial MX500 1TB SSD and cloned the old drive to the Crucial drive...hellfar it's newish laptop.

In this day and age it boggles my mind that this crap still happens but there it is.
