Just to pile on, scam

your reflex is correct, someone calls to "verify" information is always a scam. IRS, for example, reminds you they will never call you for information, still one of those things if there really was a problem they'd send you a letter, never call. Anyway, build up that reflex, even that little though that maybe it is legit is bad, get rid of any doubts you might have here.

PS See some are reiterating the point that for important stuff you will get a letter, not a phone call.correcto.
