Football had a huge effect on VT's growth


I was in B'burg from 1991-2000, and IIRC when we sucked at football, there was almost no growth on campus. After 1995, when we played in a BCS bowl, new buildings started popping up all around campus. After 1999, again IIRC, the freshman SAT average went up substantially.

A lot of us joked that if we'd applied to VT in 2000 (instead of the early 90s), we couldn't have gotten in.

The growth paralleled football success almost exactly...
