That’s a tough one. Pre-pandemic, I’d be concerned if an employee called


out even once in the first month. When I started a job, I’d want to make the best impression possible and would show up even if I had the plague.

But now, the expectation is you stay home if you’re sick and you’re actually doing harm to the business if you show up under the weather.

So I think it depends on the circumstances. If the employee misses consecutive days for the same illness but otherwise has good attendance, I guess I’d be ok with that. But if the employee misses multiple non-consecutive days claiming different ailments, that would set off alarm bells.
