Starlink is low orbit so the distance is much much shorter.


580KM for starlink. 35,785 km for normal communication satellites.

Starlink will be like a mesh of wireless access points and your dish connection will move from one to another (actually always connect to at least 2 to 4 at a time) as the earth rotates. Yes, there will have to be hundreds or thousands of them orbiting to get global coverage.
