Anyone notice that old people still use a land line phone?

I am currently at my MIL's house in VB. She is 80 and has received at least 10 calls today on her land line ... from her sisters, neighbors, friends, etc. My Mom (also 80) is the same way. She almost exclusively uses her land line. Is it just a 'can't teach an old dog new tricks' thing? I don't get it ... I have to have a land line or my Verizon bill goes way up (explain that BS to me!) but I have the ringers all off and haven't made or received a call on that line in the 8 years I have lived there.

Kinda weird ... almost happy hour ... carry on.
