I only have about 200 miles on the bike, and have only used the front derailleur a half dozen times. Since I'm in VB, I've just put it on the big cog and rolled.

My difference in speed between the two front cogs is about 5 mph. I went a little over 22mph on the 50-tooth cog this morning, but could only get in the 17s on the 34-tooth cog on the way back. I wouldn't want to do 3+ hour rides with only the small cog.
