My Dad was on an escort Carrier (U.S.S. Long Island) who was part of a

convoy at times with an Iowa Class Battleship. He said that he get to see the ship fire the big guns a few times. Dad said when the ship would fire the 16" guns at a 90 degree angle the entire ship would slide laterally a couple of feet.
