You can make all of that with one sheet of oak plywood, msrp $54


Need a table saw with a decent outfeed or some creativity with a circular saw. Nothing impossible. You can in essence copy the design of the particle board setup you have now unless you are trying to build something stylized like mission, stickley, etc.

I think you will like the results more using oak plywood than pieces of white wood mechanically fastened. The more pieces you use usually the harder it is to build and easier it is to make a mistake you end up living with
