Well, first, we don't just compare the numbers without context
We know what the flu does almost every year. We know it runs it's course and is done at less than 50k/year.
On the other hand, we see COVID-19, a disease we don't understand very well including it's multitude of symptoms for even those who survive, get to 80k deaths in a couple of months while the first derivative (i.e. the rate of change), might be approaching zero (i.e. nowhere near done).
So sure, your bike is going faster than my Ferrari which I have only just touched the gas pedal of.
