Not convincing.

The most important factor is entirely ignored: the number of cases when the policies were put in place. Even if lockdowns are twice as effective, a place with 1000x the cases when the lockdown is put in place is going to look worse than the place that just does social distancing.

While he tries to correct for confounding variables, the six states in the just social distancing categories don't really provide a good reference to compare against all of the locations with a lockdown. I.e. nothing in the social distancing looks like NYC under any set of circumstances.

Finally, the lockdowns aren't really all that different from a social-distancing strategy without a formal lockdown. One has some weak enforcement, but both are essentially voluntary when it comes down to it.

This looks like a bunch of fluff math done by someone who took an intro statistics course and has an agenda.
