Some risks are solitary, some are multiplicative

When you cross the street, you could die. And yet people cross the road all the time. I don't fault people for living their lives when it comes to crossing the street, playing football, or even climbing Mt. Everest (mortality rate 6.5%).

Other risks like pandemics are multiplicative. One person's risk taking spreads risk to another person. More like 2-4 other people in this case. It's not a non-sequitur to point this out.
