I've been reading a lot of debate on businesses staying open...

My oversimplified two outcomes seem to be:

1. We shut everything down now and just deal with it for X amount of time.

2. We wait Z days to shut everything down now and deal with it for X*Y amount of time. Where Y grows with Z.

If I was a business owner or employee (especially retail and restaurants), I would want to be closed for as short of a time as possible. Option 1 seems logical to me. However, I fear that as a society we're too short-sighted to see that option 2 is the more probable outcome and more devastating outcome. Also, option 1 doesn't work unless it's done by all which is what's causing governments to intervene.

I'm blessed to be able to work from home and not have to worry about this. I also feel great compassion for the stories I'm reading about people saying they *must* work to pay bills, but I believe they will have a much harder time paying bills due to the delay in actions.

TLDR; Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
