Wouldn’t more cases make it less lethal?


That’s the part that is getting lost. As someone in health care I can for 100% certainity day if you die in a health system with flu related systems you will be assessed for covid, meaning the death toll is pretty accurate.

There are definitely more cases in the US and the world but that would only drive down the total lethality of this virus.

Nothing of this is to say the rights steps aren’t being taken just you can’t compare death totals yet.
