I think local politics is more intimidating for many


At the national level you can talk about big broad issues in general terms. X is good but Y is bad.

At the local level, it is more real and that includes the hurdles and red tape. Just look at one of the local issues in my town. The DOT is widening a public road and taking land away from the businesses on that road starting in a few months. One of those businesses is a local farmers market that sits on the owner’s land in his front yard. But town rules are preventing him from moving his existing market without building a new more permanent structure that will take a lot of permits and time. And just at the local level the building guidelines document is over 600 pages long.

So you have to be dedicated and understand legal docs and have a lot of time to actually do stuff at the local level.
