I've had that happen with new shoes, in one car but not others

New dress shoes had a slightly wider base, and it just barely reached the gas pedal when I braked. So I did what you did, and I realized it immediately. Car only moved a couple of feet so no issue. I haven't measured but I think in this car the gas and brake pedal are slightly closer together than my other car, though I wonder if that's a standard distance?

My wife's great aunt, in her late 70s, had this happen a few years ago and her car smashed into the car in front of her. She swore it was the car's fault. No it wasn't, it was her, hitting the wrong pedal.

What I don't get or people who blame the "sudden acceleration" on the car. It's the driver.
