...exactly what the people in the Audis and Toyotas experienced first hand. They weren't making it sories to get a settlement, they really experienced it.

What happened to me was that my foot was on the side of the brake pedal, but it also on the accelerator. The accelerator was receiving more input than the brake, and as I pushed harder on the brake pedal, the car continued to accelerate forward. I lifted my foot and the forward acceleration ceased. Just happy I was in a parking lot, and not on the street with anyone in front of me...especially a pedestrian! This was a first for me, and it took at least a full second before I recognized what was happening and corrected.

Bottom line: the car was functioning perfectly, and it was operator error. If you feel yourself in a similar situation, try to roll your foot to the left at the ankle, or lift your leg and hit the brake again...further to the left. Anything to take pressure off the accelerator while continuing to brake.

Foot positioning was probably correct for a "heel to toe" driving technique, but this car has a automatic transmission. Guess that might become an issue for someone who moves between vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions...especially if you drive the manual equipped vehicles in the way sports cars should be driven. I've driven both types of transmission equipped vehicles for decades, and this was the first time I've experienced it.
