I'm not a country music fan, but what I've seen of this series has been

fascinating, and like much of Ken Burn's work, it just sucks you in.

In my case, I grew up listening to Country because that's what my mother liked, so it was on the country station for breakfast before school and then dinner later that day.

My sister and I used to love one aspect of winter. Since the local country station was AM, it had to stop broadcasting at sundown, so we got a month in there or so where there was no country music at dinner.

Yet I can't deny that my mom's love of country music influenced my musical tastes, probably without me realizing it until I was into my 20's or maybe even later. A lot of the rock that I like has a pretty clear country influence to it.

The series has not been "Must See TV", but I often find myself watching it as opposed to channel surfing. Last night's episode? I remembered all those stars, all those songs, even though much of last night focused on a few years before I was born. What I've caught of previous episodes has made me flash back as well. My mother loved Marty Robbins, Bill Anderson, Roy Rogers, Charley Pride, The Statler Brothers and so many more.

And that's also what makes me a bit sad. My mother is in a nursing facility now, and isn't very communicative. Certainly some memory is still there, but also certainly not fully. She would LOVE this series, but I'm not sure if she'd really be able to appreciate it. I might have to buy blu ray's or something to give her the chance to watch it just because it might engage her.
