ClearQAM would have opened up the market for third party products


and services to improve the cable experience where cable companies have failed or chosen not to bother. CableCard was supposed to do that but take a poll of who has heard of CableCard and that'll tell you why it's never really taken off.

With ClearQAM (or a less hostile stance towards CableCard), TiVo would probably expand their offerings substantially as it'd be a lot easier for them to get customers and for their customers to opt into their service(s). SiliconDust as well. Others (Roku, Apple, Microsoft, etc.) would likely enter the larger, more accessible market as well.
