Maybe the NIT and WNIT reward smaller teams with a higher seed

for being regular season champions. At least that could explain why UNC-Greensboro is either the #1 overall seed or 2nd #1 overall seed (depending on if left or right has the #1 overall seed) in this year's NIT.
