I only disagree on 1 aspect of that. When they joined the team, they made


a commitment. Now in this case, there's 2 teams, 2 commitments, so they have to reasonably choose between the 2 (with some parental guidance), but I would hope that your logic doesn't mean the player can decide "I'd rather sleep in today" or "I'm just going to play video games" or something like that.

Because in the case of my son's soccer team, some reasonably good players DIDN'T make the roster of the upper level team. So if one of his teammates did that, then he's just stolen a spot, and not using it, from a player who maybe DID want to be there.
