I can only speculate but since when has that stopped anyone?

I think 1 and 3 are decent guesses. Additionally, Lewis at 65 and McFadden at 74 appeared to give us the best team lineup while allowing Bolen to redshirt. Coaches likely thought Moore, Blees, and LaPrade are capable of NCAA qualification at their weights.

Finally, we know that McFadden had some injury issues coming back from Worlds. It’s hard to know how long he’s been dealing with those or if it’s still affecting him.

He still has time to round into shape and peak at the right time but the transition has certainly been less smooth than most expected.
