As a general rule of thumb, have been told the most cost effective way...


...to get "elite" jobs is to go to work your tail off & make great grades at a solid undergrad school, then put your money into a great (elite) grad school.

As for IT, if you find the best doors shut when you come out of school, consider going into the Army or Air Force if they will guarantee you a Signal Corps (and/or whatever the AF calls it) job. Not only will you be working with cutting edge technology, it's a very good way to build a network of contacts between former Army (and AF) C4I guys and the government contractors you're working with. (I did a J6 job on one tour and saw this first hand.) Tech companies were fighting each other for the services of former military IT people.
