I get that the idea is to have a level playing field so that the races are about driver skill rather than technology (or at least I assume that is the reason for all of the rules). I'd just be more interested to see what kind of cool engineering teams could come up with to give their driver an edge if they had more freedom. I think you could still enforce strict safety regulations without making every car a cookie cutter.
