Smashed big toenail down to the quick - any thoughts beyond hookers & blow?

Nail completely shattered/cracked off above bottom quarter. Pulled most of crushed pieces off though I've reached my pain threshold for the evening. Anyone done this -- ideas about protecting nail on regrowth? Currently have toe in aluminum pan with water & hydrogen peroxide. UT Toesim.
