It's the clearest tie to the prior season, and they could link it to her opioid addiction as well. You could put her in an off screen nut house/rehab. There is also a theory that they essentially reboot without Roseanne being present; she lives elsewhere. I forget the details but it was more clunky.

Roseanne and Becky were the two most awkward actresses this past season, IMO. Dan and Darlene are far better at their roles. Not sure how much of a difference having Roseanne (the character, or the actress) made, really.
