A good percentage of them do take summer classes early, and it seems to be situational. I'm not sure how those decisions are made (maybe SAT scores or HS grades), but those who might struggle that freshman year usually are in a class or two in the summer beforehand.

After freshman year, others often take a class or two in the summer just because they are there working out all summer, and those summer classes reduce the number of credits they need to take in the Fall and Spring when the demands of the wrestling season are high.
