i used to enjoy watching the old AWA back in the 80's. But back then, a 1 hour show would have about five matches in it.
Somewhere along the way, the promoters decided people wanted to watch all the outside-the-ring drama and posturing more than actual matches. I think a two hour show these days has maybe three matches in it.
Replace "drama and posturing" with "human interest stories" and you get about the same concept with Olympics coverage. Maybe 1/4 of the broadcast is showing actual athletic competition on a good day.
