That is definitely the great unknown ...
my wife is a few years younger than I am. Our plan is for her to work until she is 60 and that would give me another 3 years of medical insurance and then we could take Cobra for 18 months before having to figure out some type of bridge plan to Medicare. That would also mean I wouldn't have to start withdrawing from my 401k for a few years.
I expect there will be a whole bunch of people in that situation and I am hoping there will be some decent options at that point. I know that AARP offers some plans.
