Extended warranties tend to cover the most reliable part of a cars life.


New car warranty covers the initial stuff, and the extended warranty expires before the really major things start wearing out. The dealer isn't selling warranties expecting to lose money on them. But it does remove the risk of having a big ticket repair bill for a few years.
