Lot to be said for buying hi quality and keeping it a while, but..

carbon fibre frames are a big improvement over steel and aluminum. I grew up in the 70s riding steel frame bikes made of Reynolds 531 or Columbus SL---strong and springy but heavy. Then got a Cannondale aluminum bike...it was light, but stiff a brick. Half way through a century my arms, shoulders, and hands were sore! But my Trek Madone carbon bike is the best of both--light AND forgiving! Can ride all day on that baby!
